My SEO efforts have helped businesses in various industries double revenue and significantly increase organic website traffic, leads, and conversions. I get excited about delivering measurable SEO results that meet and exceed clients’ expectations.

How Did I Get into SEO?

I always enjoy sharing how I got into SEO. I’ll start by saying that I got my college degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management…so it has nothing to do with Search Engine Optimization at all. After graduating from college, I initially wanted to get into banking. I applied for role after role but didn’t land a job in that particular field.

I ended up getting approached about a summer contract position in the Information Technology field by a member of the church I attend who had been (and currently is) in the IT field for several years. I had no experience in IT, but I saw the opportunity as one where I could learn as much as I could and potentially get hired full-time. And that’s exactly what happened. I continued expanding my knowledge/skills and obtained several certifications.

After a while in the IT field, I wanted to change careers and attempt (for a second time) to get into the business field. This time, I had my mind set on marketing. I took a traditional marketing course while in college, so I figured I’d try to look for opportunities in that field. I applied for several positions in traditional marketing but didn’t have any luck. At that point, I expanded my search to digital marketing to see if I could land a role. Just like I did with my traditional marketing job search, I applied for role after role and seemed to not be getting anywhere. But finally, I came across a role that looked interesting.

So what was the role? It was an Internet Marketing Associate role. Honestly, I didn’t know exactly what the role consisted of at the time, but I applied anyway. I’ll say that I’m glad I applied…because I landed an interview that I’ll never forget.

Now, here comes the highlight of the story behind how I got into SEO (a career that I absolutely love).

As I mentioned, I landed an interview that I’ll never forget. Why is that? Well, to start off, I was surprised to have received an interview invitation in the first place. And second, I didn’t have a background in SEO. One of the first questions I was asked during the interview was “What is SEO?” Now, I could have made up something to sound like I knew what it was and blew the entire interview. But instead, I simply said “I don’t know.”

At this point, I’m thinking to myself “that’s it…I’m definitely not getting this job.” But surprisingly, I received a job offer and accepted it.

So why did I get the job? Well, the owner of the company (who was also the interviewer) told me that what stood out about me was that I was honest, for one, but also that I was teachable. He said I had an opportunity to learn about SEO from the ground up (since I didn’t have any experience) and get hands-on training. He also mentioned that my background in IT would help me learn the technical aspect of SEO. From that point on, I was excited about SEO and learning everything I could. That excitement continues to stay with me even today.

To sum it all up, I got into SEO because I decided to take a chance…and someone decided to take a chance on me. I will say that I’m glad things worked out the way they did, and I’m continuing to learn and grow. I’ve even trained/led other people in the SEO/digital marketing field. SEO has literally reshaped my career path in a great way. I always look forward to using my skills and expertise in this industry to help businesses strengthen their online presence and grow.
